Tiverton Concert Band can trace its history back to 1944 with the forming of the Tiverton Youth Orchestra under Ron Davey MBE. In 2003 the current concert band format was formed and 15 years later now boasts a membership of over 40 musicians of all ages and levels, and is proud to be encouraging Tiverton’s young musical talent. Instrumentation includes Woodwind, Brass and Percussion with what could be the most comprehensive selection of percussion instruments for any band in Devon!
Under the baton of Musical Director John Fitton, the 40 strong band will take you on a musical journey of old favourites and contemporary classics.
The band are excited to welcome one of their own as featured soloist, Stephen Bucknell.
Stephen grew up in Tiverton. Whilst at St John’s Primary he started his musical career playing the recorder as most children do. Then from the age of 8 he progressed to play the Trombone and Euphonium being encouraged and taught by John Fitton. He joined the Tiverton Concert Band aged 9 followed by the Tiverton Town band at 12. Stephen has enjoyed studying music throughout his education and this led him attended the University of Salford in Manchester to study Musical Arts. Whilst at University he had the chance to play with many different ensembles including Big Bands, Wind Bands, Brass bands and Orchestras. During this period, he developed a keen interest in conducting and composition which he hopes to pursue later in his career. Now 23, Stephen is currently undertaking Initial Trade Training with the British Army at Kneller Hall as a Euphonium player, and is looking forward to being posted into a Military Band shortly.
